Technical Manager

Description: 

The Technical  Manager is the primary point of contact for all matters concerning organizational improvement and optimization at the Belpre Plant. 

 

Essential Duties:  

 

  • Champion the Manufacturing Excellence Initiative to drive cost reduction, increase reliability, and to ensure that it reaches its full potential in terms of improving organizational effectiveness. 
  • Take on different management roles at the plant to promote professional development,  organizational efficiency, and to ensure continuity of operations.  
  • Partner with colleagues in production and maintenance to improve productivity, drive standardization across shifts, optimize fixed and variable costs, and increase quality.
  • Collaborate with peers at other Orion plants and functions to develop and share best practices, drive continuous improvement, and identify potentially useful technologies.    
  • Maintain accurate records, process metrics and documentation according to guidelines, and prepare both regular and special reports as needed; present findings to stakeholders.
  • Stand in for the production and/or plant manager when he or she is not available. 
  • Promote compliance with all safety and environmental policies and procedures. Support plant in ensuring operating discipline is maintained and the key management system procedures are followed.

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering.  A degree in chemical engineering is strongly preferred, although other disciplines will be considered.      
  • At least five years of experience in refining or specialty chemicals manufacturing is required; some of this experience may have been acquired in roles such as production engineer, process engineer, production supervisor, continuous improvement manager, or reliability engineer, or a similar role.
  • Supervisory/leadership experience is required; some of this experience should include managing professionals, technicians, and hourly employees.  
  • Strong collaboration, coaching, and interpersonal skills are essential; the successful candidate must be versatile and able to get results in the absence of formal authority.    
  • Familiarity with pumps, dryers, ventilators, hydraulics, high-pressure injection, high temperature applications, reactors, and other common types of process equipment is required.
