Senior Inhouse Cloud Architect AWS Chemical Industry (m/f/x)

Description:

Invisible, but indispensable

Our industrial carbon black is not immediately visible, yet it is found almost everywhere – in tyres that get you safely to your destination, in the smartphone you hold in your hand every day, in the paint that brings your home to life, and in batteries that supply energy. Without it, modern life would come to a standstill.

But what you can see immediately is that we invest in you. In your development, your prospects and your future. We provide you with the framework you need to grow – professionally, personally and financially. Your commitment makes a difference to us, and in return you receive more than just appreciation: you receive genuine recognition.

Our Global IT & Digital business unit brings together several Centres of Excellence (CoE) that drive key future-oriented initiatives such as cloud, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data analytics and operational technology. The Cloud CoE shapes the strategic direction of our cloud landscape, develops innovative architectures and consistently drives the transformation towards modern, scalable and cloud-native solutions.

As a Senior In-house Cloud Architect AWS (m/f/d), you won’t find a traditional 9-to-5 job here; with interfaces to APAC and the Americas, work may sometimes extend into the early hours or late evenings.

Help us with your expertise and agile mindset, and find out more about this challenging role below!

Before we go into detail: the basics.

37.5 hours per week | flexible working hours | 1 day/week in the office (Cologne) | permanent position | Cologne | 30 days' holiday | salary range: €88,000 - €111,000 (according to the chemical industry pay scale)

The job that makes you happy:

  • Take overall responsibility for our cloud roadmap and drive strategic initiatives from planning through to successful implementation, always with a focus on delivering sustainable business value.
  • Design and establish our cloud reference architecture, standard operating environments and blueprints, ensuring they are optimally aligned with technical and organizational requirements.
  • Develop, operate and integrate a modern enterprise cloud platform that intelligently integrates data and applications across locations, systems and technologies.
  • You will assume strategic and operational responsibility for our SAP-AWS landscape in close collaboration with service providers and ensure stable, efficient operations.
  • Drive innovation within the company by actively promoting and implementing forward-looking technologies such as AWS, edge computing, CI/CD, DevOps, Docker, Kubernetes and cloud-native architectures.
  • You will act as the central interface between business, IT operations and external partners, building robust relationships and serving as a technical sparring partner and escalation point for all cloud-related matters.
  • You will work closely with various IT teams on the further development of our data platform and actively drive its integration into the cloud strategy.
  • Manage budgets (CapEx/OpEx), evaluate new technologies and suppliers through proof-of-value projects, ensure the quality of partner services, and simultaneously drive the further development of our cyber security maturity and ITIL-based service processes – including transparent reports, KPIs and documentation.

The profile that makes us happy:

  • You have built a solid foundation through a degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or a comparable field, supplemented by several years’ experience in cloud and data centre environments – ideally in an industrial context.
  • You are distinguished by your in-depth expertise in the design and implementation of complex cloud architectures, particularly in the interplay between cloud, edge and traditional infrastructures.
  • You bring technological breadth through your knowledge of AWS, container technologies, CI/CD, DevOps, as well as topics such as API management, integration and networking; programming or scripting skills (e.g. Python, Java, C# or PowerShell) are an added bonus.
  • You are methodically confident in modern project and working methods (e.g. Scrum, PMI, Prince2) and have ideally obtained relevant certifications such as AWS or TOGAF.
  • Entrepreneurial thinking, a high degree of personal responsibility, and a good sense of priorities and time management help you to drive projects forward in a structured manner and, in the long term, to take on a technical leadership role.
  • Strong communication skills in an international environment, excellent English language skills and a willingness to travel occasionally round off your profile and make you a prominent figure within the organization.
