Shipper

Description: 

The incumbent performs a variety of tasks that are necessary to prepare products for shipment by rail, truck, or other method.   This is a union shop that offers full benefits on day one and a competitive starting wage with an increase typically within 90 to 120 days.    

 

Responsibilities:

  • Sorts, arranges, or stages material, miscellaneous equipment, and supplies in designated areas.
  • Unloads, loads, stores and checks inbound and outbound material.
  • Records deliveries, receipts, shortages, and storage of material.
  • Spot check inventory daily, being alert for shortages, damaged goods, and other potential problems.
  • Ensure that all stored materials are properly identified and visibly tagged.
  • Alert management to deviations from quality standards.
  • Maintain documentation as required.
  • Keep the work area clean and perform other duties that are necessary to ensure that the shipping/receiving function is able to support production and meet customer expectations.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.  
  • At least two years of experience as a material handler, order puller, forklift operator, loader/unloader, shipping and receiving clerk, or similar role is required. 
  • Forklift certification and the ability to operate common material handling devices and equipment are required.  
  • Computer literacy and the ability to use handheld scanners, printers, label makers, and similar devices are required.
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs regularly; over 50lbs with assistance is necessary. 
  • Willingness to work in environments for prolonged periods that are hot, dusty, noisy and that require the use of PPE.
